Troubleshooting & Diagnostics

Step-by-step diagnostics for rapid resolution of wireless, driver, power, and tuning connection issues.

01. WiFi network does not appear after powering on

• Boot Timing: The MediaTek SoC requires ~40 seconds from cold boot to load the kernel and initialize wireless radios. Wait until the LED is solid green.

• Hardware Switch: Ensure the physical slide switch on the side of the device is in the ON position (not switched to Ethernet-only mode).

• Failsafe Reset: Press and hold the recessed reset button on the side for 3 seconds until the LED blinks. This immediately restores the default Tracktuned Link AP on Channel 1.

02. Banner shows: "Failed to connect to '[SSID]'. Tracktuned Link AP restored."

• Failsafe Trigger: This is the zero-brick watchdog operating normally. When the Link cannot reach your saved shop/home WiFi (e.g. you took the car to a race track or entered the wrong password), it automatically restores the standalone AP so you are never locked out.

• Resolution: Connect your laptop to the restored Tracktuned Link AP, open http://192.168.8.1/, and verify your network credentials or continue tuning over the direct AP.

03. Desktop app says "Not Connected" or cannot find the device

• App Update: Ensure you are running Desktop App v2.2.5 or higher, which includes the 254-thread concurrent LAN scanner.

• Subnet Verification: Confirm your laptop is connected to either the Link AP (192.168.8.x) or the same local WiFi subnet as the Link.

• Windows Firewall: Check that Tracktuned Link.exe has inbound and outbound permissions enabled on Private networks.

04. Device attaches in app, but tuning software cannot communicate

• COM Port Check: Open Windows Device Manager → Ports (COM & LPT) and verify a USB Serial Port is present without yellow warning triangles.

• Software Port Selection: In Haltech NSP, MTune, or PCLink, manually select the assigned COM port (or set to Auto-Detect).

• Power Stability: Verify the 5V power supply has at least 200mA capacity. If the 5V supply sags below 4.75V when the ECU powers on, the USB host controller will reset.

05. Datalogging telemetry lags or stutters

• FTDI Latency Timer: Set the COM port latency timer to 1ms in Windows Device Manager → Port Settings → Advanced.

• Pin WiFi Channel: In the Web Panel at http://tracktuned.local/, change the WiFi Channel from Auto to fixed Channel 1, 6, or 11 to avoid channel hopping.
