Network & Wireless Operating Modes
Tracktuned Link features an enterprise-grade dual-mode wireless stack built on OpenWrt 25 and Linux 6.12. Switch seamlessly between a standalone pit-lane AP and your shop WiFi network with zero risk of lockout.
Interactive Mode Architecture
In Station Mode, the Link joins your existing 2.4GHz workshop or home WiFi network. Both your laptop and the Link share the same local subnet.
- Keep Internet Access: Check live maps, download calibration files, and use Haltech Cloud without WiFi switching.
- 100% Radio Bandwidth: Link turns off its own AP so the entire radio is dedicated to low-latency USB/IP communication.
- Subnet Auto-Discovery: The Desktop App v2.2.5 scans all 254 IPs concurrently and locks onto the Link in <100ms.
How mDNS (tracktuned.local) Works
In firmware v2.1.17, OpenWrt's lightweight mDNS responder (umdns) is configured across both the internal bridge (lan) and the station interface (wwan):
# /etc/config/umdns
config umdns
option jail 1
list network lan
list network wwan When you type http://tracktuned.local in your browser or when the desktop app boots:
- Your operating system sends a multicast query to
224.0.0.251:5353. - The Link responds immediately with its current IP address on your network.
- Zero manual IP configuration required.
Zero-Brick Watchdog Failsafe Architecture
What happens if you connect the Link to your garage WiFi, but then take the car to a race track where that WiFi does not exist?
/usr/sbin/wifi-watchdog) automatically manages failsafe fallback.ubus call network.interface.wwan status. If the saved WiFi network is available, the connection locks in permanently.Subnet Collision Isolation
If your home router also uses the 192.168.8.0/24 subnet, standard routers will suffer from routing collisions.
Tracktuned Link includes an automated collision mitigation hotplug script (/etc/hotplug.d/iface/99-subnet-protect). When an upstream IP collision is detected on DHCP assignment, the internal bridge automatically pivots to 192.168.9.1, preventing any packet loss.
Hardware Reset Button
At any time, you can press and hold the physical reset button on the side of the Tracktuned Link for 3 seconds to immediately force-reset WiFi settings back to the default standalone AP mode on Channel 1.
